South African Freedom Day Celebrations
On 27 April 2017, the South African Embassy and members of the South African expatriate community celebrated the 23rd Anniversary of Freedom Day. South Africans marked the end of over three hundred years of colonialism, segregation and white minority rule and the dawn of a democratic dispensation in South Africa.
On 28 February 2017, the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of South Africa and the Russian Federation was celebrated.
In 2017, South Africa will also be commemorating the Centenary of the late O.R. Tambo, our Stalwart and renowned Diplomat who, under trying times, succeeded in building an International Anti-apartheid and Boycott of Apartheid South African Movement that contributed greatly in crippling the unjust apartheid system in South Africa. Furthermore, 2017 is the year of the South Africa – Russia Cultural Season, which will provide us with an opportunity to strengthen our people-to-people bonds through experiencing each other’s cultures.
