Moffat Russian Conferences

Moffat Russian Conferences has held an annual conference with a Russian theme since 2012. MRC is in partnership with three Moscow-based organisations: the State Library for Foreign Literature, the Institute for Translation and the State Literary Museum. Our aim is to increase understanding between opinion-formers in the UK and Russia.

These highly interesting conferences are held in the beautiful Scottish town of Moffat

The CALEDONIAN CLUB MOSCOW

This is the only club which boasts a Scottish Flag for ‘English’ on the top of its home page in Russia, possibly the world!

Founded in 1994, the club is the oldest of its kind in post-Soviet Russia. The club’s mission statement is:  Our goal is to introduce the historical and cultural heritage of Scotland to the Russian public, as well as to discover and promote Russian cultural influences in Scotland.’

The club organises various lectures, events and even trips to the wild reaches of what can be humbly called the planet’s most beautiful country, expeditions which include journeys to the inner parts of Edinburgh, Glasgow and other settlements. Club meetings are tremendously educating, and usually lubricated with a wee dram or two of single malt from somewhere above the borders.

You are Scottish of you feel you are! Or so the saying goes.

Activities, calendar etc., can be found on: www.caledonian.ru

Flying Banana

Led by Martin Cooke

Website: www.flyingbananas.ru/

This group headed by Martin Cooke is one of Moscow’s most original and hard to define artistic endeavours. Activities range from organising children’s shows, to filling St. Andrews Church with hundreds of grunge lovers, whilst watching a kaleidoscopic light show, to putting on Macbeth, to drama classes, to banana birthdays, to many other indescribably fun activities!

Those in doubt about Moscow not being a centre of world class performance art, should check this group out!
