THE HISTORY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE THROUGH SONGS AND POETRY

LYUBOV ZOLOTOVA & THE MINNE SINGERS presented the history of the English language through song and text at St. Andrew’s Church on the 27th of October.Among many of the multitude of interesting facts discovered were: why the 11-12th cc English sounded more like German, why some English words have their French ‘twin’, when ‘thee’ was stopped being used.

The lecture was illustrated with excellent renderings of ancient Celtic and English songs, as well as readings of Old English texts.
